...The explanation, then second performance of the Tornyai made it much more approachable. Well done! And the Schubert! We came especially to hear it and you were splendid. Many thanks....

29 June 2020 - Despite (or maybe because of!) the restrictions imposed under the recent Covid-19 lockdown, 34 keen musicians from all around New Zealand will assemble at Chilton St James School in Lower Hutt next month for the sixth ASQ International Music Academy. Ranging in age from 8 to 80 and hailing from Invercargill to Auckland, the participants will prepare chamber and string orchestra works over six days from Monday 13 July, coached by the members of the ASQ along with guest tutors Donald Armstrong (NZSO Associate Concertmaster), David Chickering (NZSO Cello Section Principal Emeritus) and Tom McGrath (Teaching Fellow in Piano Accompaniment at the University of Otago).

The 2020 Academy will culminate in a free public Gala Concert in Expressions Whirinaki, Upper Hutt at 5 pm on Saturday 18 July.
