Aroha Quartet's 2019 season - 3 programmes, 12 concerts, 10 centres

...The Aroha Quartet played [the Beethoven] with passion, with beautiful tone and meticulous clear phrasing...This was a memorable concert and the Aroha Quartet are one of the great musical assets of our city....
(Steven Sedley in Middle C)

13 April 2019 - All concerts in our 2019 season are in place. We'll be playing three exciting programmes in ten centres around New Zealand between May and December.

We start the year with 'Metamorphoses', a programme that consists of Mozart's joyful 'Hunt' Quartet, Ligeti's exhilarating First String Quartet 'Métamorphoses nocturnes', and the profound String Quartet No 13 in B-flat Op 130 by Beethoven. We're very happy to be back playing for the Rotorua Music Federation (2 May), South Waikato Music Society (12 May). We're also putting on our own shows of this programme in Wellington (7 May) and Palmerston North (8 May).

We're joined then by our friend and pianist colleague Diedre Irons for eight performances of Brahms' amazing Piano Quintet in F minor. These concerts also include 'Unbound', an expressive, heartfelt work for string quartet written in 2011 by New Zealand composer Brigid Bisley.

Three of these concerts begin with Mozart's 'Hunt': for the Waikanae Music Society on 30 June and Greytown Music Group on 14 July, plus our own shows in Napier on 16 July.

The five concerts that finish the season all end with the Bisley and the Brahms, but begin with Haydn's chirpy String Quartet in C Op 33 No 3 'The Bird': Oamaru on 10 September, Dunedin on 11 September, Palmerston North on 13 November, Auckland on 24 November and Wellington on 1 December.

Further details of venues, programmes and ticketing can be found on our website.

We look forward to seeing you at one or more of our concerts!
