15 September 2015 - Following on from the success of our inaugural ASQ International Music Academy in July 2015 we're already making plans for the next one!

The 2016 Academy will all take place on 8-14 August in St Andrew's on the Terrace in central Wellington.

At the 2015 course, 33 participants converged on Wellington from all over New Zealand and as far afield as China for a week of wonderful music making. You can watch a video of the string ensemble performing at the gala concert in St Andrew's here.

The 2016 ASQ Academy begins with a social event on the evening of Monday 8 August. Each day from 9:30 to 3:30, participants will be busy with chamber music coaching and rehearsals taken by members of the Aroha String Quartet, and string class/ensemble and masterclasses led by guest tutors. There will be opportunities for individual lessons, scheduled around other activity. The ASQ International Music Academy will culminate in a participants’ concert in the wonderful acoustic of St Andrew’s on the Terrace church on the afternoon of Sunday 14 August.

The timetable includes time to practise, relax and socialise with other participants and to enjoy the wonderful scenic and cultural attractions of the Wellington region. There will be informal concerts, a tutors' concert and social events in the evenings.

The ASQ International Music Academy is designed for adult amateur and student string players and pianists of a minimum standard of Grade VI. Pre-formed chamber music groups are welcome to apply. Participants not in existing groups will be organised into chamber ensembles for coaching, with music sent out in advance where appropriate.

Applicants from within NZ who are unable to attend the whole course may enrol for the final three days. Applicants from outside of NZ must enrol for the full six days.

Further information about the ASQ International Music Academy 2016 (including a list of guest tutors) will be posted on this website as it becomes available. Registrations will be open in February or March 2016.
