20 January 2017 - Join the Aroha Quartet and MC Steve Carlin for a magical musical journey across China, bringing together traditional folk tunes through to Tan Dun. This free concert, at 8pm on Thursday 26 January in the beautiful surrounds of the Soundshell in Wellington's Botanic Gardens, is part of the WCC Summer City Meridian Garden Magic series.
A large LED screen projects video images by Jon He and Ed Davis to accompany many of the pieces. Rain day is Mon 30 Jan, 8pm. See the WCC FaceBook page for updates.

Our programme begins with the elegant Classicism of Boccherini. In the next work, ‘The Bullet’ by French composer George Onslow, the composer dramatically depicts a hunting accident in which he was almost killed and his subsequent recovery. In the second half, the atmospheric ‘Swim the Sliding Continents’ by Auckland composer Louise Webster and the heartfelt ‘Postlude’ by Ukranian composer Valentyn Silvestrov are followed by Dvorak’s richly Romantic String Quintet No 2 in G. Tickets ($30 General Admission, $25 Concessions, $10 Under 18s, $60 Families - 2 Adults + 2 Under 18s) available from Eventfinda (service fees apply) or at the door from 7 pm.
