ASQ International Music Academy in Asia 2020

...The explanation, then second performance of the Tornyai made it much more approachable. Well done! And the Schubert! We came especially to hear it and you were splendid. Many thanks....

5 January 2020 - Following the success of the previous two events, we are looking forward to returning shortly to the Zhongshan People's Culture Centre for a week-long chamber music course. Our third ASQ International Music Academy in Asia will take place in Zhongshan, China, from 13 to 18 January. Over the six days we will be working with the team of dedicated local musicians and tutors and the young participants ranging in age from 6 to 20 years from China, Hong Kong, Macau, and New Zealand. The aim is to foster team work and a love of ensemble playing.

As in previous years, the 2020 ASQ Academy in Asia will begin with an opening concert in the Zhongshan People’s Culture Centre on the evening of 12 January, presented by all the tutors and the musicians of Zhongshan Sunshine Chamber Orchestra.

The varied Academy programme consists of individual lessons, chamber music ensemble coaching, the Academy string orchestra rehearsals and  lunch-time activities, including concerts, musical movies, paper craft workshop and a musical lecture. A popular instrument making forum given last year by our sponsor, renown violin maker Mr Wu, will be repeated in 2020. Last, but not least, we will be introducing a new activity into our China academy this year, a chamber music competition to encourage good team work amongst young ensembles, to be held on the final day of the Academy.
