Applications now open for 2017 ASQ International Music Academy

...Did I find any cause for complaint? Yes, actually, I did – they didn’t encore the Brahms. But isn’t that the sign of an exceptional recital, that you send your audience away wishing they could have heard it all again?...

24 February 2017 - Our brochure is now out for our 2017 ASQ International Music Academy, which will take place from 1-6 August at St Andrew's on the Terrace in Wellington. It can be downloaded, along with an e-flyer, the application form and a draft timetable, from this website. Participants who are unable to attend the full six-day course may apply for the short course 4-6 August.

The ASQ Academy is ideal for adult non-professional and student string players and pianists of a minimum standard of Grade VI. Participants receive chamber music & string orchestra coaching, take part in masterclasses, informal concerts, social events and the final concert.

We're really happy to be into our third Academy. The 2015 and 2015 events had a real buzz, with the musicians from NZ, China and Australia putting all their energies into honing their chamber works and the string orchestra music.

In 2017 we're again joined by a fantastic team of guest tutors: well-known pianist Diedre Irons (formerly lecturer at Canterbury & Victoria Universities) , violinist Donald Armstrong (NZSO Associate Concertmaster), cellist Ken Ichinose (NZSO Associate Principal) and double bassist Joan Perarnau Garriga (NZSO Associate Principal).

Applications close on Sunday 30 April.
