6 March 2018 - Whilst New Zealand was enjoying a sizzling summer in January, the ASQ team embarked on a special trip to the northern hemisphere winter to run the Inaugural ASQ International Chamber Music Academy in Asia from 28 January to 3 February 2018 in Zhongshan, Canton, China.

We had the pleasure of working with an enthusiastic group of 55 participants from China, Macau, Taiwan and New Zealand aged between 5 - 22 years old young, supported by a dedicated team of local music teachers and musicians, including members of the Zhongshan Chamber Orchestra. We loved being immersed in such a motivated, positive and warmhearted atmosphere.

We kicked off the ASQ Academy in Asia with a concert to a packed auditorium. Over the next six days the intensive schedule involved working with 11 chamber groups and two string ensembles (a large junior orchestra and a smaller ensemble of the more advanced students). All participants received an individual lesson, and we ran a public chamber music masterclass, performed by Sunshine Quartet. The young students played two concerts to families and supporters. Both were very well received, with parents thrilled to see the obvious progress and enjoyment of their children.

Plans are already afoot for an ASQ International Academy in Asia 2019!
