26 February 2016 - Applications are now open for the 2016 ASQ International Music Academy, to be held in Wellington from 9-14 August.

Join fellow musicians from around New Zealand and overseas for a week of enjoyable music-making in the extensive, modern facilities of St Andrew's on the Terrace in central Wellington, New Zealand's cultural capital.

The inaugural ASQ International Music Academy, held in July 2015, saw 33 participants converge on Wellington from all over New Zealand and as far afield as China. You can watch a video of the string ensemble performing at the gala concert in St Andrew's here.

The 2016 ASQ International Music Academy will begin on Tuesday 9 August at 9:00am. Each day from 9:15 to 3:30, participants will be busy with chamber music coaching and rehearsals taken by members of the Aroha String Quartet, and string class/ensemble and masterclasses led by guest tutors. Download the web brochure here to find out more details about tutors.

There will be opportunities for individual lessons, scheduled around other activity. The 2016 ASQ International Music Academy will culminate in two participants’ concerts in the wonderful acoustic of St Andrew’s on the Terrace church at 3:00pm (chamber music) and 5:30pm (string ensemble, finishing around 7:00pm) on Sunday 14 August.

The timetable includes time to practise, relax and socialise with other participants and to enjoy the wonderful scenic and cultural attractions of the Wellington region. There will be informal concerts, a tutors' concert and social events in the evenings.

The ASQ International Music Academy is designed for adult amateur and student string players and pianists of a minimum standard of Grade VI. Pre-formed chamber music groups are welcome to apply. Participants not in existing groups will be organised into chamber ensembles for coaching, with music sent out in advance where appropriate.

Applicants who are unable to attend the whole course may enrol for the final three days. This short course commences at 9:00am on Friday 12 August.

To register for the 2016 Academy applicants must complete an application form and pay a refundable deposit. Applications are due by Friday 29 April.

Fees for the Academy are:
Full Course: 9 - 14 August - $720
Short Course: 12 - 14 August - $360
