9 February 2015 - The inaugural SOUNZ - Aroha Quartet - Radio NZ Concert Recordings Project calls for scores for string quartet (2 violins, viola and cello) by New Zealand composers. The project is being run in association with the Composers Association of NZ and Chamber Music NZ.

A joint panel made up of representatives of partner organisations will select works totalling up to 80 minutes for recording by the Aroha Quartet in October 2015. The quartet will rehearse and workshop the selected pieces prior to the recording sessions. Composers and observers are encouraged to be present for these sessions.

Radio New Zealand Concert producers and engineers will record and edit the works for broadcast and online streaming on SOUNZ and RNZ Concert websites. The sessions will also be filmed by SOUNZ film-maker Chris Watson.

Submission guidelines:

The project is open to all New Zealand composers (composers must be New Zealand born, resident or hold New Zealand citizenship)

Works must be scored only for string quartet, and should be no longer than 20 minutes in duration.

There is no restriction on works that have been previously performed, however the selection panel may choose to prioritise works that have not been previously recorded. Recordings are not required for the selection process.

Submissions (including a complete score and entry form) should be sent as a PDF to SOUNZ no later than 20 February 2015.

Submissions should be made to info[at]sounz.org.nz. The panel¹s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

The rehearsal and recording sessions will take place on 25 & 26 October 2015 in Wellington.
