2018 ASQ International Academy set to be large & lively

...…in moments of repose their tone is soft and mellow; in full flood it is mellow and rich; and when filled with ferocity it is rich and loud (and of course ferocious!)....

26 May 2018 - Thirty-eight non-professional musicians aged 10 to 70+ from New Zealand, China, Australia and the UK will join us in Wellington in the last week of July for our fifth ASQ International Music Academy. We're expecting a full-on week as we help the participants prepare their string orchestra and chamber group pieces for the informal and public concerts. Our programme begins with the elegant Classicism of Boccherini. In the next work, ‘The Bullet’ by French composer George Onslow, the composer dramatically depicts a hunting accident in which he was almost killed and his subsequent recovery. In the second half, the atmospheric ‘Swim the Sliding Continents’ by Auckland composer Louise Webster and the heartfelt ‘Postlude’ by Ukranian composer Valentyn Silvestrov are followed by Dvorak’s richly Romantic String Quintet No 2 in G. Tickets ($30 General Admission, $25 Concessions, $10 Under 18s, $60 Families - 2 Adults + 2 Under 18s) available from Eventfinda (service fees apply) or at the door from 7 pm.
